COMPETITION PROCEDURE
PRIOR TO COMPETITION
Students will participate in a Online Masterclass with the 2025 IYANMC Featured Composer to ask questions about the new piece and receive direct insight on their expected performance practices of the piece.
ROUND ONE
Round is screened and not open to the public
Senior Division: Applicants will be asked to play their Bach Prelude and Fugue, and judges choice from the classical and romantic pieces. Applicants will not perform the IYANMC Original Composition in this round. The round will not exceed ten minutes.
Junior Division: Applicants will be asked to perform both pieces, excluding the IYANMC Composition piece. The round will not exceed ten minutes.
ROUND TWO
Round two is screened and not open to the public
Senior and Junior Division: For those who qualify, applicants will perform judges choice and the IYANMC Original Piece. The round will not exceed twenty minutes.
ART Piece Round: Those who do not receive an invitation for Round II, can compete with the IYANMC original composition. Round is screened and not open to the public

MASTERCLASSES
Finalists will have an opportunity to work in a masterclass setting with the 2025 IYANMC Featured Composer
ROUND THREE
Round is open to the public
Senior Division: From their competition repertoire a program, pianists will choose to perform a program not to exceed thirty minutes, which includes the IYANMC Piece
Junior Division: Play competition repertoire in their entirety
